In game two of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon, Penn State Schuylkill got off to a very quick start. After one-inning, Penn State Schuylkill would lead 5-0. Penn State York would struggle to respond as Derrick Eberhart would throw three scoreless innings for Penn State Schuylkill, shutting down the bats of Penn State York.
After scoring one more run in the top of the fourth, Penn State Schuylkill would lead 6-0. Penn State York would chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the fourth by scoring two runs of their own. Brad Church (York, Pa. / York Suburban) would come through with an RBI single in the inning and Brendon Delridge (York, Pa. / York Suburban) would score the second run for Penn State York on a wild pitch, making the score 6-2 after four-innings.
Penn State Schuylkill would respond with a run of their own in the fifth-inning, extending their lead to 7-2. Once again, it looked as if Penn State York would rally from behind, plating two more runs of their own in the bottom half of the fifth-inning. Jackie Barlow (Manchester, Md. / Manchester Valley) and John "JP" Dyson (Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) would score in the inning, making the score 7-4 through five-innings.
Once again, Penn State York failed to execute a shutdown-inning after reducing the deficit. In the sixth-inning, Penn State Schuylkill would respond with three more runs, extending their lead to 10-4. Penn State York would fail to respond in the final two innings, losing the game by a final score of 10-4. Penn State Schuylkill would win both games of the doubleheader, earning the series victory over Penn State York.
On the mound for Penn State York, Kent Walker (York, Pa. / Red Lion) would be charged with the loss and his record would fall to 2-1 on the year. Walker pitched five innings while allowing ten hits, seven runs (seven earned), three walks, and struck out one. Avery Penson (York, Pa. / York Suburban) pitched just one inning in relief while allowing four hits, three runs (three earned), and struck out one. Chad Speiser (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) would pitch one scoreless inning of relief.
Penn State Schuylkill was led by Derrick Eberhart on the mound, as he pitched a complete game while allowing twelve hits, four runs (four earned), one walk, and struck out six. He improves to 1-0 on the year.
Penn State York falls to 6-3 on the year and 4-2 in the PSUAC. Meanwhile, Penn State Schuylkill improves their record to 5-6 overall and 4-2 in the PSUAC.
Penn State York will be back in action this weekend against Penn State Wilkes-Barre for a three-game series.
