Bio
Hartman enters his sixth year and fifth season with the program during the 2024 season. He was named PSUAC Coach of the Year in 2023 for the third consecutive year. During the 2023 season, Hartman led the Nittany Lions to a 24-7 overall record and a 12-0 record in conference play, earning the PSUAC East Division Championship for the third consecutive year.
Hartman has rapidly transformed the program, achieving historic milestones for the Penn State York women's volleyball team. These accomplishments include having a player awarded "East Player of the Year" for three consecutive years, earning the title of "PSUAC Coach of the Year" for three consecutive years, winning the PSUAC East Division Championship for three consecutive years, and finishing as runners-up in the PSUAC Championship and 3rd place at the USCAA National Championship.

Hartman has compiled an overall record of 70-35 and 39-9 in conference play since the 2019 season. Before Hartman's arrival, the program averaged just four wins per season over the previous eight seasons.

Hartman is a dedicated skills-development coach who equips his athletes with the fundamentals needed to reach their full potential. He fosters a team environment where athletes mentor, encourage, and positively motivate each other on and off the court. His goal is to build a positive program where athletes are eager to improve and willing to work hard toward success. Hartman emphasizes humility in victory and believes that starting from zero is essential for continued development and improvement. He aims for his players to create a positive ripple effect for future generations of student-athletes at Penn State York.
A true Penn Stater, Hartman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Penn State Harrisburg and an Associate degree in Business Administration from Penn State Mont Alto. He was a student-athlete at Penn State Mont Alto, playing soccer from 1992 to 1994, and at Penn State Harrisburg, where he played club volleyball from 1995 to 1997 and served as team captain.
Hartman resides in Dover, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Valeri, who is the assistant women’s volleyball coach at Penn State York. Together, they have one daughter.
Before joining Penn State York, Hartman served as the Head Boys Volleyball Coach at Dover High.
