2026 Athletics Awards Ceremony Recap
On May 4th, 2026, the Penn State York Athletics Awards ceremony was held at the Pullo Center, giving out dozens of awards to athletes.
The following is a summary of the night, including both award descriptions, the recipients of the awards, and the staff for each respective team. Congratulations to all award winners!
PSUAC Academic All-Conference Award
The Academic All-Conference Team includes those student athletes who have met one of the following two sets of criteria: 1. A semester GPA of 3.0 or higher during the semester of competition; Or 2. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and completion of at least 24 credits
USCAA National All-Academic Team Guidelines
· All student-athletes with 24 or more credits (at the start of the season) on their USCAA transcripts shall be eligible for the National All-Academic Team.
· Overall (cumulative) grade point averages must be 3.50 (on a 4.00-point system) or greater.
Broadbent Award (Soccer) This Award is given to the soccer player who has, in the mind of the coaching staff, made the most improvement. It is given in honor of Dr. Bruce Broadbent, Ph.D., former division head, Health and Human Development, Commonwealth College; and a former faculty member at Penn State York. The award began in 1994 in recognition of Dr. Broadbent's contributions to the soccer program, and the summer camp program, which he directed for eleven years.
Christopher C. Miller Sportsmanship Award:(Soccer): This award is given to the soccer player who displays a high level of sportsmanship not only on the pitch, but in everyday life. The award was established in 2002 to honor the late Christopher C. Miller, son of former Penn State York Soccer Coach George Miller. Christopher passed away on July 9, 2001 at the age of 16. During his soccer career, playing in over 400 games, never received a Yellow or Red Card for unsportsmanlike play. His love for the game of soccer and his outstanding sportsmanship will always be remembered through this award.
Soccer Most Valuable Player Award: This award was instituted by Head Coach Christian Schmoyer in the 2024 season and is awarded to the player who in the eyes of the coaching staff, has contributed their outstanding talent, and leadership to the success of the team.
Trimmer Award: (Men's Basketball): This award is given to the Men's Basketball Player, chosen by the coach for his improvement. It is given in honor of the late Coach Ron Trimmer who coached the Men's Basketball program at Penn State York for eight years. Coach Trimmer was also an administrator in the York City School District.
John Fritz Sportsmanship Award: In recognition of excellent sportsmanship, in displaying ethical, appropriate, polite and fair behavior while participating in athletics for Penn State University and the PSUAC.
Chancellor's Award for Academic Character: This award is presented to a single student athlete who holds a 3.5 CGPA or higher, who, in addition to an outstanding GPA, upholds the five CORE Values of Penn State York Athletics: Accountability, Courage, Diligence, Integrity, and Respect.
Character Counts Award (Women's Basketball): This award, instituted in the 2019-20 season by Head Coach Tory Harvey, is selected annually by members of the team. It is awarded to the player who, in the eyes of her peers, displays impeccable character, both on and off the court.
CORE Value Award: This award recognizes one female and one male athlete that has distinguished themselves by upholding and demonstrating the five CORE Values of Penn State York Athletics: Accountability; Courage; Diligence; Integrity, and Respect.
